Yes, I see the benevolent intent but still oppose this approach to gender relations. Women are not more important and they are responsible for their own happiness, safety and health. This leads to unrealistic and restrictive expectations on both men and women.https://twitter.com/SonjhonMatthias/status/977524850892959745 …

The men in my family were raised to treat women better because they're more important. We're equal but it's our job to make sure they're happy, safe and healthy. I was raised to be a benevolent sexist. Or chivalrous as they said in the before times.

Any parent who teachers boys to be benevolent and respectful towards girls (or anyone) knows that they will have better reproductive success later in life

"If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy". I understand your reply, but even though we're are equals (obviously), women create, feed and raise babies. That is why they are 'more important' imo. Opposing this approach serves no purpose that I can see.

Do you think men are somehow expendable? Less valuable?

No. Men should be the providers. Same value. Equal. But I believe women are more important. It's not a radical idea is it? "Women and children first....' We put women on in a pedestal and look to make them happy, healthy and safe. It's our job as men, IMO .

“Same value. Equal. But I believe women are more important. “ If women are more important then we’re not equal in value, are we? Switch women for children in your tweet. You tweet still sounds right, doesn’t it? That’s a sign that you are infantilising women.

It makes sense to me. Just because we have the same rights and are equal doesn't mean women don't get on the lifeboats first right?

Then we don’t have the same rights, do we? ‘Men last’ = equal? Really?

Of course we do. Men can get on the lifeboats first too. It's just a 'female dog' move. It's cowardice. I think women should be protected and look to make them happy. Why is that a position I have to defend LOL?

I'm between these two viewpoints. Sometimes, because women are not (generally) as strong as men, they may need, through no fault of their own, some male help fending off aggressive or abusive men.
