Your whole country is a fucked nanny state now. Britain is a free speech embarrassment.

Freedom of speech is often confused with the belief that it’s ok to say whatever you want to whomever in whatever way you choose.
-
That is freedom of speech barring a call for violence or interruption of a proceeding. England has no free speech. People get arrested for leaving angry notes at ambulances. I’m glad I don’t live there.
-
You don’t know enough about our laws. Read up on the changes made to our Public Order laws to better accommodate Article 10 ECHR (freedom of expression) It’s about balance. Does Freedom of Speech permit you to shout FIRE! in a crowded cinema when there is no fire?
-
This is not what is meant by freedom of speech. It's about the free expression of views, not anything that can be done with your mouth. Causing a stampede, commissioning a crime, committing perjury, breaking confidentiality laws, insider trading etc all remain rightfully illegal.
-
Can you explain what you mean by “Commissioning a crime” in more detail please? Some communication is a crime depending on the content and way it is delivered (particularly the intent).
-
Not hugely relevant. Just an example of something which can be done purely in speech - go and beat up that man - but is not defended by free speech advocates.
-
Ah I see. That wouldn’t be anything to do with our laws which control speech it would be aiding and abetting an assault. I get your point that this is about freedom of expression (which is protected) not free speech. I don’t think
@0olon_Colluph1d gets the distinction.

This is why it's getting harder for me to support Democrats. Their platform is so much closer to what I want, but the way things can starting going bad under ID politics policies makes me second guess (Not that our current Head of State/Government is an alternative to celebrate)

Unfortunately, anything that's off-narrative seems to be interpreted as "hate speech", not just by Labour politicians like
@SadiqKhan but also by the Tories. And it's not just the legislative arm - it's also the executive (cf@Lauren_Southern ) and the judiciary (cf the pug).Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Oh he’s an absolute wolf in sheep’s clothing imo. A little digging on any of his philosophies reveals an authoritarian bent...not just the two you mentioned.

I think Sadiq Khan was very sensible in getting out of Parliament after the change in Labour leadership. The trouble is that he has to keep his name in the press, so does "nice" albeit ill thought out, attention grabbing things for publicity.
