Please never again tell me I focus too much on freedom of speech. A man just got convicted of making a tasteless joke.

Then I honestly don't understand what he's saying - an exact simulacrum of 'realistic' nazi behaviour, transposed onto a pug, would be a 'parody' but any other related phrases render the whole thing a statement of intent?
-
That’s exactly my view. If he’d taught it to respond to “Build V2 rockets” it would equally have not functioned as a joke. I personally think it’s just an excuse. I know that humour is in the eye of the beholder and also that whether it was a joke is not the main issue.
-
Right, but it wouldn't have functioned because v2 rockets aren't the first thing that comes to mind when most people think of nazis. You seem to be taking away points because he made his joke more accessible rather than historically accurate. It was a joke.
-
You have your point the wrong way round. It is what people think of when “Gas the Jews” is said (Nazis) that counts . If asked what think of when Nazis is said, the answers will be varied. If anyone mentions V2 rockets, the first thing I think of is Nazis as will most ppl.
-
No, that's how the joke is constructed. He didn't think 'what's the worst thing ever - the phrase "gas the Jews"' 'now, what on earth could connect with that phrase?'
