Hey Helen. Don't know if you saw my tweet about Lindsay Shepherd's free speech event in Canada, but I was quite literally shut out of a debate I was engaged in regarding free speech when an airhorn was emptied in my face. It was a concrete example of what you're facing virtually.

No, afraid not. I haven't seen any news on that, either. Was it shut down?

See if my little thread with pictures shows up.https://twitter.com/HenstockStephen/status/976265800968482818?ref_src=twcamp%5Ecopy%7Ctwsrc%5Eandroid%7Ctwgr%5Ecopy%7Ctwcon%5E7090%7Ctwterm%5E3 …

This game of assigning reviled terms to people and groups by stretching or outright changing their definitions is so tiring. It's amazing everyone hasn't caught onto it yet.

I actually watched that not long ago. Wasn't a bad movie. Not nearly as dramatic as twitter though.

The actual point and I have come to the conclusion that it's never going to work out between us, and our engagement has been broken off. (But we're still friends.)

Isn't grifting a crime? I love the way these people try to criminalize free speech.

I give you consent to grift me, Helen.

Not a grifter, but there's an interesting tribalism to all this free speech nonsense, where people are making the issue much bigger than it actually objectively deserves to be(like "sjws" do with many topics)This is prob driven by group dynamics though rather than bad faith
-
Yeah this. I'm frequently wedged on the issue and always come down on the social justice side because of group dynamics. I can't tell, but would wager it happens often on the other side too.

It could be intellectual laziness to refute the points or it could be fear that they wont succeed.
