That's exactly what I'm trying to do. Get on board.https://medium.com/the-abs-tract-organization/the-resolution-of-jordan-peterson-99bee709b2b2 …
-
This isn't particularly interesting to me, thanks.
-
Boy, that's obnoxious. Did you even read it? Like your article settled the debate right?
-
I'm sorry! It was just sincere. I'm not interested in abstraction. I read the first one. I am not part of any philosophical debate about abstraction and Jordan Peterson.
-
There are 3 articles on Peterson. It's about much more than abstraction. Open your mind. The last one isn't even about abstraction, it's just the backdrop. It's about metamodernism, which you've talked about. You wrote this, so you're part of the debate.https://areomagazine.com/2018/01/29/the-guru-appeal-of-jordan-peterson-in-our-post-everything-world/ …
-
You really can't force people to find your approach interesting. I'm afraid I don't. Other people might. Show them. Try a little more humility. No, I did not write that and even if I did, it would not obligate me to engage your tangentially related ideas on the matter.
-
Okay, fixing the author. I'm not forcing anything on you. I'm saying you're not looking, so you don't understand my approach. And no, it wouldn't oblige you to do anything, but you are a publisher, so act like it. There is more than Peterson anywayhttps://medium.com/the-abs-tract-organization …
-
Send me something as an editor & I'll give it my full attention but, in my own life, I have my own areas of interest and this is not it.

I couldn't finish the article. I'm so tired of snide, smug, pseudo-intellectual attacks on Peterson and particularly tired of criticism of fans of his, of which I'm firmly one.
-
I am not one but the character assassinations won't help. We need to say what ideas we disagree with and why. Sam Harris did well with that and I think Pinker will too when they talk.
-
I think a lot of the trash aimed at Peterson is based on resentment at his success which has come about by a rather random series of events. He's not infallible and I don't always agree with him, but he doesn't deserve this snide vitriol.
-
But 'You're just jealous' is akin to 'You're only in it for the money' and is never helpful. As soon as you dismiss someone as insincere & ill-motivated, you end the conversation. We need to be able to talk about the ideas.
-
Yep. I completely agree. Harris and a few others apart, few seem willing to openly debate him, especially on his criticisms of the neo-Marxist post-modernist elements of the far-left, and instead attempt to label him as an alt-right Nazi. I wonder why...

-
Take people as they are. Reasonable criticisms of Peterson's understanding of postmodernism and conflation of it with Marxism exist. So do far-left loons who call everyone who disagrees with them alt-right Nazis.
-
Sadly it's the loons on both sides of the divide that are the loudest, to the detriment of the reasoned being heard.

I thought your point about presuming good intentions from an interlocutor at the Portland State event was one of the most important ones made. Douglas Murray’s framing in terms of “competing virtues” is also very useful.pic.twitter.com/MGOtT0HnoA

I think the piece is a refreshing antidote, actually, and nothing to be afraid of.
-
"everyone I don't like is a nazifascist" is not very refreshing
-
You made that bit up :)
