So, doing a podcast requires an inordinate amount of time doing tedious tech work, doesn't it?

Perhaps. But I don't intend us to do that part. I already have a couple of volunteers!

You have? Someone just kindly offered to help me too. But there'd still be a lot of preparation. I have promised not to take on any extra work. :-/

Why would there be so much preparation? We'll just switch on the mike and chat instead of tweeting.

I'm not sure that would be very interesting. We'd need to prepare something.

Hmmm. How about talking about feminism? You both seem to know about that? It’s a good starting topic. Also you have decades of literature to discuss😂✌🏼 maybe differences in application in first world vs developing nations?

There's probably dozens of people from local tech colleges that would love to have "produced an award winning podcast with two brainiacs" on their resume. Heck you might find such a person on Twitter. Potential title "Tea for Two - conversations & tea across the continents"

You can do it as hi-tech or lo-tech as you like, surely? All you really need is a microphone and a sound editor.

No way. Even for high quality audio (which you don't need) run it through plugins in Audacity, Reaper etc. Hours done in minutes.

This is the last video cast I watched. Andreyev (France) has (I think) a condenser mic; Neely (US) just using headphones by the look. Minimal tech; great convo.https://youtu.be/qyYHCxznWY8

Not as difficult as you would think. In this day and age, equipment, GOOD equipment, is easy to come by. I have some recommendations if you would like some.

I have equipment out the a$$. Also have some experience with DAW systems, specifically Adobe Audition, but it costs money. Audacity is free and is a quality program. Reaper is a one time purchase of $60 and has a friendly user interface.

Think I just mansplained a bit sorry. I get excited by this stuff. But again, I can answer what I can. I know @GSpellchecker Stephen Knight runs a one-man podcast. I know he could give better advice than I can.

To minimise editing work: (1) use a good quality mic, not a hopeless little £5 job from Asda; for vocals, I recommend the Shure SM58, which is pretty much the industry standard; (2) use a good quality recorder (I use a Zoom R16 8-track digital studio); (continued)

        (3) find a quiet room with reasonable acoustics - in today's double-glazed age, a living room should do it; (4) ban all pets to the garden! (5) have a script if possible, so that you don't have to keep pausing to think; (6) good diction, avoid ums and ahs; (continued)

If you follow those rules, you should have a recording that's good enough for podcast, with no editing at all! As with so much in life, it's about having the right preparation, the right environment, the right equipment, and the right attitude. (ends)

A quiet room will not be possible in India. But the crows, etc will add character.

Ah, I should have said "either a quiet room or a way-cool exotic location with unfamiliar background animal noises". 😀
