Also, I have a daughter and I put a lot of thought into raising her without gender roles. She had both 'boys' and 'girls' toys. She preferred the boys ones, particularly toy cars but she also gave them names & personalities and made them have tea parties.

At this point, I realised any interference on her gender expression, as they call it, was going to be largely pointless and just enjoyed watching what she would do. Children are very, very interested in gender & it's extremely revealing to see it through their eyes.

She determined very early on that boys are annoying and seem to be geared towards trying to kill themselves in a way that girls are not. Also, they have to 'ruin everything' by being competitive when the game would work much better if they were co-operative.
