If one is critical of Christianity, it is still not acceptable to go & shut down a church service even if the ideas were being expressed in other churches! And if this was actually effective in preventing Christians from practicing their faith, that would be even worse!https://twitter.com/HereInThere/status/971365538109775872 …

It doesn't matter that Christianity is a prevalent set of ideas that can be found elsewhere. That still doesn't give anyone the moral right to decide that this set of Christians will not express their faith today. It is horribly authoritarian. Don't countenance it,

I could think of many reasons to want to shut down a church service. The pastor is a known pedophile, supports cleansing of LGBT, convincing his members to sacrifice themselves, and many others all of which have happened! Disruptive protest is a tool and needs leeway.

I can't disagree that what constitutes necessary disruptive protest is a fine line. I'm trying to square how does a minority express discontent effectively without disruption because historically it has been absolutely necessary.

Criticism, mockery, shunning can all be used to signal disagreement. Protests are also fine, as long as they don't prevent others from speaking.

Yes. At our thing, they held three counter events in protest which was exactly the right thing to do. They walked up & down outside with signs of female scientists which was (irrelevant to claims but) the right thing to do. Some walked out. Also fine. Turning sound off? No.

So there is some level of disruption you will tolerate. We need to be careful when we vilify protests. I'm not saying you do this. But many cast a wide net. I can agree that the line is turning off that mic (again I disagree with the reasons and method) is the line we need.

Yes, I said so from the start. The line is stopping speech.

I can only begrudgingly accept because I believe it is so much more nuanced. The campus protests are frustrating, they are a divergence from historic need for disruptive protests. I'll be surprised in 100 years if someone says I'm glad we held signs outside x bad idea.

I hope they'll say they're glad they countered it with better ones.
