Ah, maybe I was wrong to think I might learn something here, because all of this is obvious - at least, in the same way that it's obvious that clicking "Reply" will send this reply. The underlying complexity may be great, but the practical upshot conforms to my existing thought.

@HPluckrose - my reply (above) has been bothering me, because it seems terribly dismissive. It wasn't meant to be. I realise there is a vast amount I could learn here if I tried - but we all have finite time, and we all have our specialities, and this just isn't one of mine!

The idea that knowledge can be "constructed" is very odd to me. Isn't knowledge just an interpretation of emergent phenomena of human biology and physics? The idea that we are in control of these emergent phenomena seems, again, odd.
