I don't know of any reports of other complaints or bad performance reviews. Are there any? It seems like someone would be talking about them if there were.

Why? That would be private information. And potentially considered defamatory to say publicly. Look, I'm not saying it's true. But you don't normally get to know about someone's personnel file. I don't know this guy as a coworker or employee. I'm guessing it was factor.

The memo was private too. The only reason we know about any of this is because of people who don't like him leaking information to the public.

I know. I'm just justifying my expectation that we'd hear something about bad reviews or complaints if they existed.

Okay, but color me suspicious anyway. Leaking a document is a lot easier. But HR department and/or his managers would not leak private information about complaints, etc. They'll show it in court, though.

I also don't see any reason to suspect this was an ongoing thing. He was directly asked to share his opinions on this topic in a company forum and they were leaked without his consent. There doesn't seem to be any sign he was an activist or loud mouth about it.

James didn't understand that when Google asked for feedback they really meant "echo our sentiments good little employee". That kind of social phoniness we all understand and live by in order to keep our jobs is difficult for a person like James. He was asked for honest feedback

He talked about how stunned he was by this. He is very literal. Also, which is completely irrelevant, very sweet. He brought out my mothering instincts which are hardly strong. I wanted to feed him.

I didn't want to make any assumptions about his personality but this is exactly what I was imagining. Absolutely zero ill intentions. He's just a literal and pragmatic person. People absolutely cannot handle that. It's unfair.

Very, very earnest. Very shy. Quiet until spoken to. Short answers on small talk but when you get him on a subject he knows a lot about, lengthy, detailed and articulate ones.

He seems like the embodiment of Geoffrey Miller’s neurodiversity argument for free expression and diversity of ideas
