I doubt if it's far more. See again the strongly overlapping distributions of traits. Neurotic is not an insult, btw. Its one of the five big personality traits. I am highly neurotic. Anyone have studies handy?https://twitter.com/Claire_Voltaire/status/970437564455768064 …

I’d be more than happy to see proof of scientific consensus that women are far more neurotic than men.

Is it possible to teach someone to be less neurotic. Are there things you can do? Also, is the neurosis due to socialization or is it inherent? I find it hard to believe that it is completely inherent. Society (at least in SA) still has a long way to go to raise children equally.

Possibly. I wouldn't tho. It's neither good nor bad and has pros and cons. Trans men have spoken of increases of confidence & loss of risk averseness when taking testosterone. It's always men who appear on Darwin Awards.

Lippa 2010 is a small meta-meta-analysis (!)--finds "small to moderate" gender differences for personality traits, notably neuroticism and agreeableness: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1751-9004.2010.00320.x/full …

Have similar studies been replicated? Are the conclusions drawn here considered well within a margin of error? (Not statistically literate)

This paper represents a summary of data "from two meta-analyses and three cross-cultural studies on gender differences in personality and interests" (from the abstract). Meta-analyses are already analyzing multiple previous studies--hence my description as "meta-meta."

That's the main point that I want to focus on. Why are traits that are primarily shown to be female interpreted as being "bad"? Being anxious or neurotic (I'm both) also means I am also more compassionate and sensitive, for example.

I don't know about "far more." In the US, d value in "neuroticism" gender gap is .53. I.e. in a random pair, woman will have higher neuroticism score than man about 63% of the time. But I don't know how much higher.

This very strong meta-analysis shows higher neuroticism scores for women than for men (see figure 1): https://www.nature.com/articles/mp201649 … I've seen the same in many studies.
