In the academic and social justice left, 'stay in your lane', 'speech is violence', knowledge is culturally constructed, gender differences are culturally constructed etc *do* come from postmodernism but I agree most people don't know that. It's just normal now. https://twitter.com/cultofdusty/status/970421801472884736 …

I’d slightly disagree with you here, because the trans umbrella is now a large collection of various trans and gender non-conforming people, and for some of whom it’s a political identity rather than based on a diagnosis of gender dysphoria. Also don’t those scans correlate...

...with sexual orientation? Also I do think rad fems have a stake in this, even though they disagree with the biological basis of trans identity, because the trans movement is impacting women’s lives.

I know, it’s very good. I was mainly making the point about the size of the trans umbrella and gender non-conformity not necessarily being rooted in objective science.

I say that too.

So what do you think about, eg, trans women being included on Labour's women-only shortlists. Are you in favour, and if so on what basis? I'm going to guess you probably think they shouldn't have women-only shortlists haha. But still.
-
I do think they shouldn't have women-only shortlists but if they are going to have them, they should definitely include trans women. If cis women are still discriminated against (I'm not at all sure we are), it's way less than trans women are.
-
On what basis would you say theyre women. A lot of it seems like just politeness in accepting their self-definitions to me - no? I know the answer's prob in the article, which I will read later, I promise. btw I'm making no conviction-based claims - Im all Qs and few As on this.
