So at a minimum I find the email to PB incredibly presumptuous and rude. If it were me, I’d deny it on those grounds alone. /end

Is it presumptuous and rude? It seems silly, as they know each other and the purpose of asking if it's ok is to make a point, but very polite.

But he didn’t ask. It’s presumptuous and rude to tell anyone that you intend to simply show up to their private class uninvited, regardless of prior association. This is apparently not okay for someone not affiliated with PSU.https://twitter.com/moolecular/status/970054013700861952 …

You still need to give permission, do you not? I didn't equate what Phil said as auditing. At PSU the person visiting must have permission of the instructor to be in a classroom during class. pic.twitter.com/Mp69f8AfNf

I’d also add that this is entitled behavior coming from a member of the media. Every school will have different rules but when I worked in academia press visits needed to be cleared through press office. 1/

If that’s also true at PSU then he would need both permission of instructor & press office. But it’s all moot since he is perceived as being a stalker. He simply has no right to be there. /end

Is it not possible he is treating him as a stalker because he doesn't want to respond to actual ideas? He should have worded it as more of a request to avoid any wriggle room for his point perhaps.

Possible but not the case. He responds to all sorts of ideas all the time. Just two weeks ago, I was there when an open invitation was given for counterviews. This is a specific case of stalking. Legal advice has been sought. But this is slippery anyway.

It really doesn't matter if you think someone has asked you to leave them alone because they don't want to consider your views. You still need to leave them alone. You can express your views freely w/out forcing them to hear it or turning up at their workplace.

While I cannot disagree that we should leave people alone if they ask for that, it's also very convenient. Going back to Sargon as an example, he created a great deal of critical content aimed at Anita Sarkeesian, -

In response when he turned up to hear her speak, along with many others, she was rude to him, that's what happened, but his content about her veiwed by large numbers of people wasn't seen as a problem, while her being rude in a public forum was, for some reason.

That isn't what I heard. I heard that he was regarded as stalking her for going to her talk. I don't care if she was rude to him or he to her. It just seemed a parallel but milder as PT has put out a load of negative content abt PB.

I think Sargon & Anita is a bit apples & oranges v. PT & PB. He attended her panel along with others from the YouTube commentary crowd as a paying attendee of convention. 1/

Sargon reconciled with Laci Green who he’d also been critical of and apologized to her. She accepted and got trashed for talking to him. 5/

I think the main question in that case is whether or making a lot of videos critical of a public figure and then attending a public talk given by them is “harassment”. Whereas what PB is dealing with seems to be an actual stalker. /end

At what point does it become harassment though? It seems arbitrary depending on where your allegiances lie.

That depends on how you define harassment. As I understand it by legal definitions of harassment, Sargon is not guilty of harassing Anita. Social definitions differ. In PB’s case, it seems from what I’m hearing today that PT may be guilty of legal harassment. 1/
