How lucky you both are. I can only wonder if I could be as strong and wise as I imagine she is

She is. She has no idea what a remarkable young woman she is.
-
She left a very strong impression on me. She’s too earnest to realise how awesome she is.

Helen, what was the name of the cult she was brought up in? Does it still exist?
-
ISCKON. Yes.
-
I went to one of their temples recently!
-
Run away!

It was quite a spectacle. I already have a weird religion though so I don’t need another. At least Zoroastrianism does no proselytising. On the contrary, we don’t accept converts.

Yes I agree Helen, brilliant girl. It seems to me there's a real familial resemblance to you in her clear-eyed, solid reasoning/thinking. Very impressed that she can account for the incredible events in her life with such poise and self possession.
-
She still struggles very much and would be surprised to hear herself described as having poise and self-possession but that's how she appears to other people. Much clarity & strength. Remarkable young woman.

As someone who had live through a cult as a child, I can relate to much of what she's saying. What a thoughtful, wonderful woman.

Remarkable story. And interesting observation that not being rooted in reality leads to suffering in the form of anxiety and confusion.

Overcoming such an upbringing must take real character. Brilliant, beautiful and damn humble, indeed. ... Adore the curls! ^^

"She was never afraid to challenge me and be fiercely honest and she showed me nothing but love and support" Well said, and fantastic job, surrogate Mom. She appears to be an impressive young woman.

1) Over the years I've found meditation emotionally balancing, and the variety of stories in the Baghavad Gita (for example) helpful in organizing concepts about human behavior-- more useful than the Christian Biblical culture, more cultish (closed-minded)
-
So I wonder what it is about some people like me, that causes religious texts (I guess fables to an atheist) be a great anxiety-reducer, not a hindrance...?
