These ideas are simply inaccessible to people who have neither the time nor the inclination to dedicate several years to studying them. Therefore, breaking them down to general sets of concepts, themes, ethics & making them accessible enables taking them on their own terms.
This risks reductiveness, of course, but this is happening on all sides - both the critics and the adherents are largely working on a reduced, condensed, distilled and bastardized version of PoMo (broadly) and it is this which affects society.
