Here's a thing that really annoys me re gender relations. People who have trouble comprehending that heterosexual people of one sex can deeply connect & even love people of the other sex without there being any romantic/sexual element. They seriously lack emotional depth.

I really resent feeling the need to say to new male friends whose minds & insights I love, 'Hey. You know this doesn't mean I have a romantic crush on you, right?' That assumption should be the default & we should be able to connect as people & thinkers without this bullshit.

This is crazy this is considered deep thought-Its always the aesthetically challenged that have issues-You never see hot chicks complaining about this kind of stuff-I've always said when you go out parting with your buddies you need one guy who'll take the fat chick in the group

My best friends are male. Can’t help it. First one was in kindergarten and we were besties till senior year.

Maybe not the default if you are young and available. But for people in a stable relationship it's definitely the first thing that comes to mind.

Of course there shouldn't be a need to say it but I don't think it prives us to show that we love someone from the opposite sex being hetero. Things flow naturally, people feel the room and act accordingly. If not, people also talk.

The desired default probably varies by sociosexuality.

I gather many men resent the fact that personal friendship & affinity so seldom lead to sex.
