Don’t do it. Your Britishness outranks Americans on this issue. (use this argument on everyone but me)
-
All tea tastes the same to me. Americans have been making tea with salt water ever since that problem in Boston, but I couldn’t tell the difference.

-
I’ve never met an American who had more than a cursory interest in tea. We drink coffee here. <beats chest>

I’m an equal opportunity coffee drinker, from Instant Nescafé all the way to the most exclusive espresso.

I admit its a lot of work for something as insignificant as tea, but you either trust in the scientific method or you don't. You don't want to undermine all of your arguments you've ever made.

I think that having more ways to make tea that tastes good is a good thing. Think about it, it can only mean more tea! So it’s a choice between having more tea, or proving Americans are dumb. It’s a win win!

It's not about the flavour of the tea, it is respect for tradition.

My ex-husband had many arguments with Argentines. "Water isn't path dependent" he would tell them. They insisted that mate (the drink) must be made with H2O at 70C, that has NEVER boiled. Not water boiled & then cooled to 70C. No! (They have special kettles that cut off at 70C).
-
what? like, with thermostats and valves?
-
The kettle just has a mate setting and it shuts off at 70C. True story. These are common in Argentina.
-
i'm just blinking now
-
THEY MIGHT BE RIGHT THOUGH!! Temporary hardness of water (dissolved Calcium Hydrogen carbonate) is removed by heat- so boiling will remove more than heating water to 70 °C
