Wait - where did you get the fish and chips?
-
-
-
A rather nice pub in Portland. The fish was yummy but I think they actually put beer and seasoning in the batter. There was flavour, anyway, and that's not how it's done. The chips were only pretending to be chips and were actually fat French fries.

With respect, ma'am, you're not helping the case for British cuisine at the moment...

Did you have a pleasant time in the Colonies?
-
I am still having it. So I will wait until I get home before referring to it as 'the colonies'. Then I will do that a lot.

"Britsplaining", is that rambling about the queen, complaining how it's hot all the time, and that tea is a pillar of civilization? As annoying as a freshly minted PoMo teen :)

Uh oh. You should have sat politely, not complained instead of openly acknowledging an issue. You've changed....

The last place you want fish is from a chain store like Long John Silver ‘s

Go over to Hillsboro to a local restaurant of the Long John Silver's chain. Get your fish & chips there. They'll come with a thing called hushpuppies, which is a Southern delicacy. Don't forget the malt vinegar to go on the fish. You can eat hushpuppies straight or w/ ketchup.

I can't imagine a good fish and chips that far west. You'll want to try it in New England, where we use cod and haddock as God intended.

I'm assuming they also lacked the proper Mushy Peas. Of course the chips, and the fish, weren't to standard either.
