This just isn't necessary. I went back to university when my daughter was 5. She was just fine. Kids can survive their parents having interests other than them & it's probably a good example for them. And yes, the conversation of a five year old can get a little dull.https://twitter.com/BrigittePrabhu/status/963120058401722368 …

We must have had different child rearing styles. I made sure it wasn't boring

Perhaps you are interested in the same things small children are and are therefore a natural childcarer. I'm enjoying her conversation more now she can talk about politics, culture, literature, ethics etc. At 5, she was obsessed with Dora the Explorer. Not my sort of thing.

Men and women come in all varieties. Some want to quit everything they do in order to look after their kids. Others want to go straight back to work. Most want to find a happy medium. It's about finding the balance that works for you and your spouse (if applicable)

Yes, I stayed at home until my daughter was 2 but then needed to work. Started going stir crazy. Needed my mind stretching.

Really? Till 2? I'd have thought you'd return to your books / research once they patched you up.

Ha. No. It was when I found myself analysing the gender dynamics of the teletubbies that I really needed to do something with my brain.

Haha. Time for tubby bye bye. Time for tubby bye bye. Full time mother works for a small minority of women. Id say most women would be content with flexible PT job and mothering most of the time.

This seems ideal, yes. That was what I had and now I work full-time but from home so it all works out.

Working full time from home is quite possibly the ideal for a mother of a school kid. You're extremely flexible and save 1-2 hours of commuting. You're very lucky. I'm trying to get Mrs Lotak to tutor. She can charge upwards of £50 / hr. Lots of rich Jews here.
