Do people commonly use the word fortnight in Britain? It is literally only in movies and novels in the US.

Yes. I only recently learnt that it wasn't a thing in the US. Fortnight is absolutely standard here.

Also Brits and Australians use ‘long weekend’ to describe a Bank Holiday Monday or Friday + the weekend.

That’s pretty common in the US too. Probably not standard everywhere
