How do we solve the conflict between some feminists, who seek to protect the identity "woman" & women-only roles/spaces from men/transwomen, & transwomen who do not want to be seen as men, but trans women?

Indeed, others have a right to label a cis person as trans if cis people have a right to label trans people cis, and so on, which is why I think the laissez faire approach to this is not working, and maybe is even a little disingenuous.

Helen's point seems to be that a few minutes ago you argued for people's right to do this, to use whatever pronoun they want when talking about others. (That's not to say I agree with what they did - quite the opposite - people should respect the pronoun we want them to use).

Exactly. And, if we go on your thinking, this would apply to your daughter, right? They didn't have to validate her? This is why I disagree with you on this one I think. They should have respected her identity, not challenged it in the way they seem to have.
