"vocational/professional needs"? Very few people actually work a job they like. But it sounds like you've bought into the corporate propaganda so I don't want to shatter the illusion you keep telling yourself.
Well, if there isn't actually anything intellectual or creative or professional you're actually passionate about, I could understand your feeling this way. I was a nurse and then a historian and now a political writer, all of which are very interesting.
But it doesn't need to be anything major. Many of my friends took part-time jobs waitressing or in supermarkets to get out and have a break and spend some time talking to adults. It prevented them getting depressed and lonely.
Happiness goes down when we have children and rises again when we get our lives back. You might think you'd find full-time fatherhood rewarding & maybe you would but you might find you want to get back to work and have the opportunity to think abt something else & be productive
You ain’t seen nothin yet. Wait till your kids are teenagers. What a freakin pain in the ass. They’re like biologically programmed for unhelpfulness & greedy thoughtless consumption of your last precious resources. But I love them dearly despite the angina they trigger.
