Can we be a bit reasonable? There are abuses of the principle of free speech that can happen in employment. People can be fired for something they've said on social media or for an off-colour joke overheard by the wrong person. This is worrying.

Well, I would say you ought to be free to discuss such topics, but should desist if requested by an individual to do so, and not simply carry on against their wishes. It should be a case by case negotiation in my opinion.

In Canada, this is discussed as the yin and yang of rights vs. responsibilities. You have a right to free speech, but the responsibility to not be an asshole. Unfortunately, the latter argument has been lost somewhere and all sides are guilty of it.

I see the firing of someone for speech as being the asshole in this scenario. You have the right to disagree and counter with speech. The responsibility to not be an asshole and demand they are fired with your speech.

This. Unless the company itself invites politics into it's workplace like what we've seen with google and it's alt left agenda. In the Damore scandal.
