Because I believe I have the right to work without being purity tested on my politics or lectured at. Anyway, after initial enthusiasm, I didn't get shortlisted. I have no idea why...

I think the key word above is, when in the workplace, if it has nothing to do with your job you have a right to tell someone to "stop talking to me about this topic" and they should stop.
