From evolutionary stance status and wealth offer offspring a better chance of survival. But they are tangible benefits in and of themselves. Comparing their acquisition to wearing make up is a false equivalency

Talking about things people do to attract mates. Obviously everyone wants to have a nice lifestyle and look healthy/attractive.
-
Yeah, and obtaining wealth and status doesnt fall into that category as simply as wearing nice clothes, doing your hair or wearing make up does.
-
Well, I can't be bothered to argue about it. David Buss is good on differences in drives to obtain & display resources & drives to present youth & beauty in terms of intrasexual competition. They're underlying drivers which don't tell us much abt the individual's motivation.

Obtain =/= display
-
Well, no. These are different aspects.

This is confusing evolutionary purpose of a behaviour with individual organism's purpose. Women who liked to make effort with their appearance got better mates & had more surviving children so these genes flourished. Doesn't mean all women exhibiting them are looking for mates
