@SpartanMindPsy podcast today, many times if one dares to acknowledge even the smallest of mistakes then, with certain unreasonable people, will do nothing but focus on that single mistake, no matter how small, and no more conversation.Thanks. I'll add speculation. Maybe ppl who aren't that bright or aren't that used to finding and embracing great arguments for their beliefs tend to fall into a state where they figure having a fully substantiated worldview is kind of a pipe dream, so they settle for feel-good beliefs.

It just seems unattainable to be fully reasonable so they don't even really try. Or they try just enough to get along with their in-groups.

The idea of 'saving face' these days is to deny you are wrong until the other person gives up and therefore they are 'right' by forfit. But actually 'saving face' is what happens as we memorize someone as an ignorant fool and realise this is what wronger than wrong looks like.
