I was blissfully unaware my extreme focus when I'm speaking to someone in a serious discussion scared the living hell out of people for the longest time.

Just, i grew up where holding eye contact is the norm during debates, so when i moved away to somewhere that isn't norm, everyone is like "Oh holy fuck this is intense"

Totally bizarre how confrontational direct eye contact is. My dog gets lunged/growled at all the time because he approaches other dogs head on and stares them in the eyes.

I experienced that once as a young woman. It was weird the power the man's stare had. I still wonder about it sometimes, as in, why didn't I just get off and wait for another train?
