Try this. It works a treat. It's not easy though.https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.livescience.com/2562-beat-jet-lag-eat.html …

I do that run regularly but in reverse. I don't get jet-lag going from the UK to the West Coast. It's going from the West Coast to the UK that's the problem. I've not found a solution other than coffee and determination.
-
^What he said.^ Always lagged when arriving in Europe, not much at all on the return, even after 2 full weeks on European time. Sorry, Helen!
-
No, that's great. I don't mind jetlag in my own home but it's awful when in someone else's with talking commitments.

With all the to-ing & fro-ing from Vancouver Island, to the UK or Netherlands, & back, I’ve experimented with that approach & decided that it doesn’t work. Now I try to schedule my flight so I arrive early in the day, & immediately switch over eating & light exposure patterns.
-
Aim to arrive by 9-ish, find light, eat at noon, *no napping*. Supper at suppertime; no going to bed early. Just dive into the new schedule: it seems to help.

I actually tried this once, when my then husband and I were moving to Japan. We gradually completely reversed our sleep schedules. It didn't work. At all. We STILL got jet lag. The instant we arrived in Japan our bodies reverted to UK time.

I never got jetlag when I flew to California. But on the way back it hit me like a brick.

It won’t work that much. You are 8 hours ahead of Portland. When you reach Portland in the afternoon/morning, just try to stay awake until the evening & then sleep.

What’s your current bedtime? I got the impression somehow that you’re already halfway there.

I'm afraid I don't even qualify as a lightly salt-and-peppered traveller, let alone a well-seasoned one. Sorry....
-
Not really. I find traveling from East to West is easy enough. Just stay up until 10ish when you arrive. Going back is generally a bigger problem

As a former Firefighter/paramedic who worked 24hr shifts, this "Jetlag" stuff is horse crap. Just do it. Dont overthink it. Your body will get the memo.
-
On second thought, you gotta protect the sharpest of your mental faculties. In that case ... what's your hour difference? Where are you currently located? Research says: don't sleep in. Just get to sleep earlier & wake up earlier until you're approximately close to target.

Unless you plan to teleport to Portland, I wouldn't bother. It's the flight itself, not this alleged "jet lag" thing, that really does you in.
