I don't think 'nerds' - read 'men who are socially awkward' - are given undue latitude at all. I'm quite scared for them in the current climate. Expectations to read minds & keep up with ever-changing social rules about gender relations is hard enough on the most socially skilled

Ever changing social rules? Really? They haven’t changed. Only in your dreams.

Well, I'm not going to argue with you. If you think everything is just fine & there are no men being demonised or women being disempowered by current feminist insanity, I just hope you continue not to encounter it.

My point is that just because the left says it’s so doesn’t make it so. My values haven’t changed.

I really don't know what you're talking about or how it relates to what I said. My concern is about men being demonised by feminism. Worrying about this is not particularly leftist.

It wouldn't be such a problem if the rules were at least consistent. But I feel we've got small minority of self-righteous people vehemently pushing a new set of social norms, which no one else agreed to, and which they don't even adhere to themselves.

Is there widely accepted distinction between nerds and geeks? is geek more ability based, nerd more negatively socially maladaptated based?

Tell me about it. My brother has more or less given up having a social life outside his tiny group of like-minded individuals. He barely functioned socially in 2013... on Ritalin. Then psychotic colonists scared him out of all his old social hobbies like D&D for lacking filters

Being socially awkward may certainly be more common in males (undoubtedly genetic) but there are plenty of socially awkward females also. Nerd can be inclusive. 😀

I think the point is that socially awkward women merely have spare time on Friday nights. Socially awkward men can have their professional and private lives dismantled by a snap judgment and an accusation. (Please don't read that as supportive of genuine predators.)
