BTW, check out the food trucks in Portland. Sounds gross but it's really awesome.

No, you will not learn what a taco is in Portland, Oregon. You will learn what what so.e northern folk *_think_* a taco should be. That means it will be Bland. If you want a real taco, if you want to understand the glory that is Taco, you must go to Texas.

      Bland is not a taco.

A taco does not have to be hot with spices. It *_does_* have to have flavor.

If you just want ground beef in a hard corn tortilla, you can find that anywhere. Except Texas. But it won't be a taco.

I was weaned on Mexican food, in Texas, and no, I do not mean Tex-Mex food. I mean real Mexican food. I know whereof I speak. *make the sacred hand gestures of a maracas player*

Fear not! There are foods which can be bland. And then there is Italian food and Mexican food. If you have either of those and the taste is bland, then what you have is neither Italian nor Mexican, but rather, some kind of Anglo-Saxon abhomination which should be euthanized.

Nonsense. You forget about low-country and Cajun cuisine.

I did not provide a comprehensive list of foods which are not bland. I simply gave the two which are most familiar to me. I do occasionally cook Cajun food as well, but a girl named Giovanna has to know Italian food, and a girl raised in Texas has to know Mexican food.
