I am genuinely scared by how fast we seem to be forgetting that judging people by race, gender, sexuality rather than who they are and what they think and do is a bad thing.

I am getting very low on patience. I don't know if people really have suddenly got much worse at ethical reasoning or if I'm just noticing it more.

I didn't learn ethics in Americans public schools. I had to learn it elsewhere (and took a course later, in college.) Many people have genuinely not ever been expected to do any ethical reasoning except ad hoc, in their own life.

I think it's more that they're choosing to completely throw reason out the window because reparations!

I’m pretty sure it’s getting worse. To me, it seems like identity politics taken to its natural conclusion.

There's a difference between noticing it and feeling pressured to reply to it. Or expecting what you do will make a difference. (They do seem to be getting worse, it's not just you noticing it.) (Glad to hear you're coming to America!)

Same. I'm inclined to say it's the former, with so many prominent voices happy to be openly bigoted against men & whites (also atheists, but what's new?) it's easy to see ordinary people being emboldened to do the same.

I have wondered whether this trend is getting worse or whether social media and hyper-connectivity in general have magnified the availability of evidence for anything one unconsciously becomes worried about, as it were.

Probably both. But not to fear: It will get worse.

isn't it part "self selection"? your rising online profile with publications critical of IdPol attract the type of people who take IdPol very seriously? or is this a RL thing?

It’s probably a combination of an increased usage of tribal identities to define politics (SJWs and the Alt right being the worst offenders)and the fact that social media makes it easier to amplify those views
