I am very excited about going to America for the first time tho a certain southerner who shall remain nameless insisted to me that Portland is not America.

that is probably the least American city in America, but otherwise kinda fun in small doses. they do have that huge, block-sized bookstore, which i like best.

Oh, if you were going to be closer to the Midwest, I’d travel to see you. As it is, that’s far and too time-consuming for me right now. 😕 I know someone who lives there though. If you’re public speaking, I will give him a heads up.

When you leaving Portland? I'll be driving through on my way to Bend for a concert on the 23rd.

BTW, check out the food trucks in Portland. Sounds gross but it's really awesome.

A great town, left wing hipster utopia. Coffeeshops everywhere. Near PSU you have McMenamin's, nice pub fare with microbrews, plus Ringside is nearby, famous, and should not miss Mississippi's Delta BBQ. Powell's Bookstore is not far, on 10th.

Some decent Americana too nearby, a decent Chinatown on Burnside and great blues/jazz clubs, like the new Jack London Review, not far on 4th ave.
