Nice take, though a little difficult to shake off the feeling that he set out to make the case he did.

I liked this, I guess. It's pragmatic. Explains itself. ;)pic.twitter.com/DUaMgMInlP

Though I wonder if it is correct to assume that the old-fashioned way implies testing it for truth by 'using it' though? ;)

I got the sense that it was a deliberate take-down because if I eliminate the 'fuck-the-prom-queen' angle, the criticism remains valid but far from being as impactful.

I don't understand your objection. Of course, its criticisms are deliberate. Of course, a case was made on purpose. This is how essays work. People have a certain view and argue for it.

Sure. And that f-t-p-q angle takes it into hatchet-job territory. I most certainly do not object to someone doing that. Am merely pointing it out... That should be okay, right?

Huh? I was questioning your 'sense' that someone had deliberately written a critical essay. It was almost as though you thought these things happen by accident. They don't. People have critical thoughts, think them through and then write them down.

But by all means, point out that someone wrote an argument on purpose if you think other people might not realise this is how essays work.

And, it's a trite point, but are you forgetting that all hatchet-jobs may be essays but all essays need not be hatchet-jobs?

Of course, some essays are positive about a thing and some are negative. Most are a mixture and this one was but mostly negative. If you are now saying you think it shouldn't have negative, ok. That's a different thing to suspecting it was negative deliberately.
