Really? This is true of cycling but in the rest of life? I'm so much more likely to have my safety considered than men are & much less likely to get hurt or blamed for being hurt. Isn't this common knowledge?https://twitter.com/ghetsuhm/status/957742232479477760 …

I have this theory that cycling is as close as a middle-class straight white guy can get to understanding Being Female. People have a reckless disregard for your safety, you have to treat everyone like they might hurt you, and if you do get hurt people will blame you for existing

I never know how to respond when I read tweets that tell me that, as a woman, I clearly should be afraid of the world at all times and if I’m not there’s something wrong with me. That’s just not how I think about the world, or womanhood.

well here are my thoughts as a strong person, married 47 yrs, 2 kids. Safety 4 women has always been a problem. There are predators. If you act like prey you get taken out. Think of yrself as a rabbit. You are weaker. Be the smart one.

Cultures in general are more protective of females than of males. Females are more reproductively valuable, hence men are relatively more expendable. This is common knowledge except to ideologues committed to believing the world is controlled by and for men at women's expense

It is unhealthy to frame your life around a conspiracy theory. Guys get it so much worse on the road btw. I've learned that if I ride in the back where drivers see a female first, they're more cautious around a group or partner that's male. Reckless disregard, you see. https://twitter.com/Ghetsuhm/status/957742232479477760 …

Yeah, if two people are fighting - how many will jump in to stop it if one of them is a woman as opposed to none. When it comes to safety we're a lot more cared for, protected. On the other hand, were also more vulnurable.

Every time these things are said I look at the tweeter’s profile. It always says things that make them seem like a person who’d victimized themselves all the time and don’t want to take responsibility ever. And then there’s you people who have a rational view. Fresh breeze.
