I do not become a postmodernist because I think that gender identity is complicated and involves more than gonads and chromosomes. It also relates to brains, hormones and genetics. I think this because this is what the emerging science shows.

We are a long way off fully understanding why some people are trans but some people are and science has made some great strides in showing us why tho some think this is much more closely associated with sexuality than is currently accepted. I shall wait on more information.

Regardless of the outcome, we will always do best to treat trans people with dignity and consideration and apply liberal principles consistently. If you are annoyed by the attitude of some trans activists, criticise the obnoxious attitude. Do not become hostile to trans people.

I agree, although I disagree that this therefore changes the meaning of gender.

Science can't change what we mean by the words we speak, and gendered terms "man", "woman", "boy" and "girl" are generally meant to refer to biological sex.

We're still talking about this tho. Biological sex indicators are to be found in genitals, chromosomes, hormones and brains.

OK - I wasn't sure, since part of the debate is around the very definition of gender, with some people saying it's basically synonymous with self-identification, which makes gender meaningless.

The question is why some people identify as a different sex to their gonads. The answer is found in other parts of their biology (tho pretentious ideologues also exist). I detailed some of it in the section 'The Science of Trans Identity' -https://areomagazine.com/2017/09/27/an-argument-for-a-liberal-and-rational-approach-to-transgender-rights-and-inclusion/ …

I'll check it out. Though the biological grounding here won't make me change my mind as to whether this actually changes definitions of gender.

So you’re saying wait for the facts before making conclusions? I’m not sure that’s allowed on twitter! ;)
