Interesting question. I was saying that I have not reported the times I have been flashed at or groped but dealt with it myself. Should I have? Should we all report minor assaults? https://twitter.com/OlGingerBastard/status/956500407752241152 …
Well, you can make that decision for yourself if a woman or a man gropes you or flashes at you. What about other assaults?

We have a civic responsibility to report any and all criminal activity we either witness or are victim of, surely you have to agree with that? How can society hope to measure and reduce these crimes otherwise? How can we know whats going on otherwise?
-
No, I don't think we need to involve the authorities in everything and I do think we can handle many issues ourselves.
-
You think we shouldn't report crimes??? There is very clear evidence that people who commit sexual assaults start off with milder forms before going on to rape, likewise with violent assaults. Can't see your thinking here.
-
Evidence is that people who commit assaults now committed milder harassment earlier, not that people who committed milder harassment earlier commit assaults now. Implication only goes one way.
-
Also, maybe some people stopped committing milder harassment, and never went up to assaults, after having been put in their place?
-
Yes, I think so. In my late teens and early twenties, boys/yng men would start fights with other men & overstep the boundaries with women much more often coz young men are often not very thoughtful or sensible. They learn.

This is reactive, not preventative. Punishment for rape doesn't erase the crime or the effect on the victim. Early detection of potential offenders and prosecution (and rehabilitation) could and should prevent serious offences later.
-
Not talking about rape, ffs! Talking about clumsy flirting and awkward approaches and lewd comments and not taking hints. You won't detect potential offenders by arresting adolescents who are learning how to play the game.
