I wa explaining the James Damore nonsense to my two best friends last week. They had no idea how problematic they were being by noticing that way more of their male friends and family were interested in tech.

The maddest thing, to me, is people who actually have children thinking that they can so easily be steered into liking & disliking certain things by exposure to social cues so subtle it requires gender studies scholars to uncover them & show them to us.

Apparently, the same little beings who require years of explicit training & consistently negative reactions to non-compliance to learn things like 'share' and 'ask nicely' can be dissuaded from doing what they really want to do by being given pink clothes & told they're pretty.

Of course, with my husband and I both believing these gender differences exist on average & cultural conditioning being so powerful, our daughter should certainly not be interested in tech. She is though. Passionately & tediously. She made us aware of this very early on.

I'm sure a society which regarded this very negatively could have squashed it out of her & made her ashamed of it but we don't live in one. She has said she wishes there were more girls who shared her interests tho.

To have female friends, she needs to not talk about video games, programming, coding & the merits & flaws of various devices, consoles & software constantly & save this for online forums. That's doable.

From a biological fitness standpoint, if we're going to go there, being an attractive tech nerd is almost certainly an advantage. I doubt she'll lack for boyfriends and they'll probably be rich too. Sorry, but it's true.

Nothing despises women, femininity more than feminist ideology, sadly.

A friend was fretting that her daughter loved ballet. I said, great, what other art form has women performing almost all the roles, the most technically challenging and impressive steps reserved exclusively for women, women centered in all the stories it tells? Cue exploding head

What's wrong with femininity? Why do feminists hate it? Is not this power:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8zxi_yCOJ8 …

Male standard as the reference. No one thinks we have a problem in medicine when 80% of the new students are women. But if men are interested in something and women aren't, it's because we are choosing wrong and we need encouragement and education to choose better.

The main problem, I think, is that acknowledging gender differences is the first step in accepting that men have problems too. All modern feminist action can be boiled down to misandry- through this lens, everything they do makes sense.
