It should be redundant but, unfortunately, in these times of highly polarised tribalism, it is not. It is necessary to keep reminding people that to agree with one thing a person says doesn't mean you endorse everything they've ever said.https://twitter.com/tombennett71/status/955058175501324288 …

Periodic reminder that there is no more redundant prefix than ‘I don’t agree with everything s/he says, but...’ There is literally no one in the world we agree with entirely. Arguments should stand in their merits, not on who says them pic.twitter.com/sUrfjRYJUs

Then we need to normalise more rational discourse. MLK was an adulterer. Do we rebuke that every time we mention ‘I have a dream’? No, because his words, his arguments were unrekated

I wonder if we can apply the same to #DonaldTrump A man of many faults but who achieved the greatest office despite them But has had little rational discourse. Most of the focus has been on the man rather than the reasons he was elected

I’m not sure that’s true. There has been a good deal of discussion on this point

Yes. There has been a tendency to insult Trump on his hair, weight, orangeness and make hyperbolic readings of his personal values but there has also been much discussion of his policies and how we ended up with him in the first place. I have contributed to the latter.

Then you are one of the few helen. Most seem to be satisfied with pointing out the shortcomings of the man rather than explaining how this man ever got to be #POTUS45 in the first place. Because, no matter how bad he is, he couldnt have voted himself in on his own

I think it would be hard to find an election with more 'How did this happen?' analysis.

tbh I'm not seeing it helen. I find plenty of vituperative against #Trump but I don't see a lot of soul searching. Apparently it's because of the Russians. Nobody wants to admit that working class white Americans voted in a billionaire because he best represents them

how does that make sense? It doesnt. There is an angry white middle and working class America that has made a protest vote Just like in the #UK too
