Laura's article provides a very good summary of just how many prominent women have raised concerns about the excesses of #MeToo
and the reasons they gave for it. The argument that they're old & oppose progress is far less convincing.

The argument 'Older women said reasonable feminist activism was going too far in the past so that's what's happening now' doesn't work. History is also full of examples of groups going too far and people saying so. We're an excessive species.

It's much like the 'People said <groundbreaking scientific genius> was mad too' argument. Do you know who gets called mad even more than groundbreaking scientific geniuses? Mad people.

@laura_hudson It's a good piece and I'm sad, though not surprised, that some women can't let other women have their say without carping. -
They can have their say. I wouldn't stop them. I will respond tho because it matters.

I just got done with a thread wherein a woman complained about being sexually objectified and told men to "Grow the fuck up." She claimed she was only talking to men who objectify her, (it seemed all about her to me), and that my objection was just me being sensitive.
-
I'd like your opinion... does this sound like she's talking to a few guys objectifying her or all men? I do have a bit of bias (well earned) and can read things into words that are not intended. Her friends all claimed she was talking to only a few guys. I'd like a neutral view.pic.twitter.com/tuB42BJX5u

Could be either but 'objectification' is largely meaningless,
-
Thanks, Helen. The vagueness of who she was talking to is enough for me to forgive myself if I misunderstood. (Though I'm not sure I did.)
-
If you're interested, (As I said, I'm done with the thread,) you can see it here. https://twitter.com/loopyloulou1982/status/954295071033184256 … One of her friends followed me because, "You make me laugh," and I had to block him.

Wow. She followed me out of the thread to continue, so I blocked her. Now she's calling me a snowflake behind the block. (Shrugs)

I'm more concerned with her being "deeply depressed" with the demographic composition of the people who disagree with her.
-
It's like she's saying: "So long as it was mainly men telling me I was wrong I could of course ignore them. But now it's people who MATTER"

Yet another attempt to make words seem more violent, but, yes, it’s encouraging to see women embrace universal values!

It seems like we've reached a stage where the criticisms of other women can no longer be ignored. That might be a step forward.

Maybe those women are starting to understand that misandry does indirectly affect them, sooner or later? Or maybe they were too afraid of crossing "the sisterhood."

Could we get a clarification? Is she depressed about how many women "attacked" her? Or is she depressed that more men *didn't*?

Likewise, Americans are increasingly vocal in their refusal to accept "demonisation" over "demonization." For Christ's sake, only one spellchecks on a Mac.

Meh, I'm cool wit' it
