I have all of them right now, thanks. I'd like to preserve that.

Congrats. That's a big change from 13 minutes ago then.

"I'm not hugely optimistic that we'll ever perfect equal opportunity, freedom of belief and expression, safeguarding the dignity and rights of the individual regardless of race/gender/sexuality..." If you've since managed to perfect all three since, more power to you.
-
No, they're not perfect. I still have them tho.
-
In that case, I recommend giving up on perfecting dignity. It's relevance to determining credit risk declines generation after generation, so not sure why I have to mortgage freedom and opportunity to preserve the honor of folks I don't even like.
-
I have no idea what you're talking about. It doesn't seem to relate to anything I have said but maybe the opposite. By safeguarding the dignity & rights of the individual, I mean valuing the individual rather than the tribe. A default that they should have rights & autonomy.

For real equal opportunity everyone would have to have the same genetics.... sounds like dystopia territory...
-
But that isn't what is meant by equal opportunity and you know this. It means that the opportunities are made available to everyone, not that everyone will have the skills to take advantage of them.
-
I think it is. Would you agree that granting a person with a really low IQ, (who isn't able to function properly in society) with a functional IQ would be giving them an opportunity? I do. We'll be there before I die I'm guessing. That's mostly my point, not trying to be obtuse.
-
You think people mean being genetically identical by equal opportunity? I think they mean not discriminating by race, gender, sexuality etc in deciding who has access to job opportunities.
-
Quite possibly. Developing to ability to improve mental disability is not the topic tho.
-
One thing I do with ideas is try to take them to dystopian sci-fi novel extremes to see how they hold up. Also gives you defenses against potential counter arguments... I do it with alot of stuff
-
^^^^ classical liberalism holds up to this very well.........

It's hard enough to even measure many of those things objectively. I suspect that most of what you can do is look at alleged transgressions on a case-by-case basis and judge them against the general principles you've set.

But I'm sure we can discriminate our way to equality and oppress our way to freedom if we believe hard enough.
