Cult? I'm not convinced. Is it his religion stuff? He discusses psychological meaning & makes compelling arguments as to why it's important. I still don't know what he means by God and I still don't believe in God. Even after buying both his books and watching hours of lectures.https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/954431274210480128 …
Very similar! This is why we've been saying it grows up around him & we need to find something inspiring & unifying which doesn't centre on strange definitions of truth & trad gender roles.https://areomagazine.com/2017/12/08/the-problem-with-truth-and-reason-in-a-post-truth-society/ …

Is what he has said about gender and evolution untrue?
-
Most of it doesn't fall in the realm of truth or untruth. I disagree ethically on gender roles and epistemologically on whether something being useful is the same as it being true.

I swear I will wear this word out yet. Idolatry. people fawn and worship the person/book/idol/idea, be it Peterson, the Bible, Feminism, Atheism or whatever to the point that they blind themselves to any truth that seems contradictory and must burn all heretics.
-
But is showing that a handful of people who allegedly worship Peterson enough to say he is the equivalent of a cult leader?
-
Rather than an attack or defence of the man himself as a thought leader, I think the phenomenon is telling. What he is giving them. It's revealing of what people are seeking in terms of meaning, truth, morality in the current mess that we have.
-
Narrative is very powerful in and of itself. I think I get to say that because I know how to do it. I did a précis of the scholarship on point here:https://www.libertarianism.org/columns/stories-vs-numbers …
-
Absolutely. That is what I argued here and why Peterson was relevant.https://areomagazine.com/2017/12/08/the-problem-with-truth-and-reason-in-a-post-truth-society/ …

I think I’ll alert @Snowflake_Film to this thread, as the people involved will likely have something useful to contribute to Martin’s documentary.
-
I don't think anyone here has been a snowflake? I was just trying to see where people were coming from? Its been remarkably civil and informative.
-
The film is about the phenomenon in universities - and, given the way of modern commentary, alas - has a controversial title. I was not intending to call anyone on this thread a ‘snowflake’, because AFAIK we are all anything but!
