I don't want to live in a society where men think women feel that or women think they should feel that. It would embolden abusive & exploitative criminals, make kind men treat women with kid gloves rather than as equals & undermine women's confidence to engage with the world.

Can we not work on the assumption that people generally don't want to kill each other, that violent criminals exist & present a threat to society generally tho often differently by gender and do not represent any demographic because generally people don't want to kill each other?

I think we usually do work on that assumption because this is the general experience of people who live in the world.

Men are far more likely to commit homicide, ratio over 10:1 (UK 2015 convictions: 208 M; 16 F). M are more likely victims of homicide, ratio about 2:1 (UK 2015 victims: 331 M, 186 F). Most F victims of homicide are DV, though women commit c. 25-30% of DV homicides.

That's what I said - acknowledge that most violent crime is committed by men.

Yes. I just wanted to add some stats here.

Specifically because most men have the exact same fear

.. and they're 4x more justified in having it, if crime rates are any indication. Yet if I had $1 for every time I've heard someone insist women face a greater degree of threat of random violent crime, I'd have many dollars.

People should read 'The Gift of Fear'. It's about listening to your intuition so you know when you should be afraid, which is very rarely, and the rest of the time you can live a fear-free life.

I guess statistically, if "women are afraid that men will kill them" was reasonable, it would be just as reasonable to say "men are afraid that men will kill them" but we don't say that on social networking as such. Makes you wonder what's going on behind the woman's statement.
