We really need to take a detailed poll of how many women fear men are going to kill them. I'd be amazed if this was a common concern.https://twitter.com/CathyYoung63/status/954282676537757696 …

One of my friends suffered horrible physical abuse from a man as a child. Sometimes she'll be with a man she doesn't know well & be struck by the thought of how easily he could kill her. But she recognises this as a post-trauma symptom &not a realistic assessment of the situation

Sometimes it seems like this fear is seized upon because it is unfixable as long as men are stronger than women and violent criminals exist. My husband could kill me easily. So could my Labrador. Neither of them have any intention of doing so.

Ha! Ben is actually a particularly large man. But I suspect he'd be more likely to Vulcan me until I threw myself out of a window than attack me.

I think it very much depends on the environment women found themselves in, there are absolutely places that women (or even anyone) would fear for their life for any wrong move.

You could also kill or maim your husband! Was just reading about a domestic abuse victim in the 40s who finally poured a whole pot of boiling water over husband while he slept & then fled the city. She was never caught, he survived but was hideously scarred for life.

Exactly. That's the difference between fear (adaptive, specific, e.g. to the strange man or scary dog when you're alone) and anxiety (maladaptive, generalized e.g. to all men or dogs).
