One of my friends suffered horrible physical abuse from a man as a child. Sometimes she'll be with a man she doesn't know well & be struck by the thought of how easily he could kill her. But she recognises this as a post-trauma symptom ¬ a realistic assessment of the situation

Sometimes it seems like this fear is seized upon because it is unfixable as long as men are stronger than women and violent criminals exist. My husband could kill me easily. So could my Labrador. Neither of them have any intention of doing so.

Cross referenced against the proportion of men who fear men are going to kill them?

I was thinking of mentioning that but this would only cause the androphobic feminists to say they never denied that men are violent generally.

Seems to me we've become much more fearful generally... parents not allowing kids to play outside, for example. It hinders children's ability to deal with the outside world as part of growing up....as Icould back in the 1950s.

Hello, Mother! Yes, indeed. Even as violent crime decreases, we fear it more and perceive it as increasing. Steven Pinker is excellent on this.

I don't know how many actually believe it, but I've heard it repeated often as a 'get out of jail free' card when discussing these issues.

I wonder how much of this is cultivating a fear one feels one ideologically ought to have - or pretending to that fear - or some combination

Women who have had their eyes opened by standpoint theory fear men. You're not yet humble enough to let Feminism's light show you the truth: Men will resort to violence to maintain their privilege!

It's beginning to seem more like a [party line] - to be defended even if not actually felt, for the good of the cause.

It's just a convenient cop-out whenever radfems need to argue that ACTUALLY women don't have any agency and expecting them to is rape culture or whatever.

Is it fear, or is it a question? (That is, a question of tactics, what should I do next that will keep me attractive in his eyes?) The poll could ask the level of fear in her concern.
