Dedicating yourself and sacrificing to learn arcane and difficult knowledge for the purposes of helping others - ending disease, saving lives - is as mythological a thing as you can possibly imagine. A hero archetype - and good for you for embodying it.

Totally agreed. Science is a noble calling - it's actually my background by education. But science doesn't tell you that you need to study science! If you equate truth with science alone it tells you nothing about how to act.
