...fully non-religious/secular social organisation isn't really tried till 1917 in Russia. Today's classical liberals tend to be secular, but there's plenty of classically liberal Catholics too. Anyway...

I think there's a big difference between something purporting to be revealed by God and something based in human reason. But the main thing is both can go wrong, either can be fanatical, and each need humility

Agreed. I'd say reason or revelation can purport to be absolutes, but they have to cease to do so when applied to concrete political reality
