@HPluckrose Do you have any thoughts on the idea that there is no scientific basis for free will? Do you see any threat here to the foundation of liberalism and the high value it places on personal choice and individual liberty? (Paraphrasing @harari_yuval ‘Homo Deus’) peace

I hate this topic. I tend to go with Sam Harris on free will. When it comes to liberalism, it's kind of misleading. Regardless of whether people can choose to, say, want to be a doctor and have the brains to be, the opportunity needs to be open to everyone.

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it. Yeah I’m with Sam Harris on free will too. I think I’m with you on the ‘opportunity for all idea’ as well. I’m not sure I understand what you mean by misleading though? Also curious about why you hate the topic?

You can just get stuck there if you make liberalism rely on people genuinely being able to make individual choices in the full sense. It's unresolvable.

Does liberalism rely on people feeling like they are able to make individual choices? On a tangent, does the advent of AI in the labour market cause any problems for the classical liberal view of economics?

Wow, the three subjects I avoid like the plague! Free Will, AI & economics. XD You might enjoy talking to
@Intrinsic29 tho! My economics are not classically liberal tho. I need to update my pinned tweet to 'Universal liberal' coz ppl always think economics.2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -
I'm not too interested in economics but I find that our lack of libertarian free will affects very little practically. If you can explain some reasons why you think it might represent a threat to liberalism, I can respond to those, though.

Thank you! Feel free to tag me when a conversation on feminism makes you lose the will to live!

Replying to @HPluckrose @Intrinsic29 and
I don’t understand feminists. It’s as though there were still an Abolition movement devoted to freeing black slaves in the US.
