I am not insulted by being told men are not the default humans and that women have different interests on average.

The insulting part was the implication that this is why women at Google aren't succeeding

But if you're a woman currently at Google, these seem like much more salient (and pressing) reasons to believe there aren't more women at Google https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Former-Employee-Alleges-Sexual-Harassment-at-Google-295567961.html …, http://www.businessinsider.com/erica-baker-pay-inequality-at-google-2015-7 …,https://www.wired.com/story/google-department-of-labor-gender-pay-lawsuit/ …

"No no no the low number of women isn't due to the fact we're underpaying you relative to men, and it's not the fact that Google managers keep harassing women without facing consequences, it's because you're different"

are there any numbers showing sexual harassment at google is notable? i’ve never heard anything remotely like that and my peer group is absolutely swimming in googlers and xooglers

I mean, here's one survey that says 60% of women in tech reported an unwanted advance, of those 65% of the advances were from a superior:https://techcrunch.com/2016/01/11/elephant-in-the-valley-survey-sheds-light-on-issues-women-face-in-tech/ …

I’m not sure if you’re getting at this to insult me or whether this has happened so often you can’t believe it hasn’t happened to someone else, but no, never an unwanted advance from a coworker or superior

Because the word "unwanted" often comes up in these discussions. Someone one interested in making a pass would be ok vs a someone one is not interested in making the same pass would be interpreted as harassment to some people.

For what it's worth, if someone asked me out on a date and I declined, I would not count that as unwanted. If they repeated to do so, then yeah. Not sure how the question is phrased.

That said: I think a superior asking you out is always inappropriate & should always be treated as unwanted, first time or no.
