I find this idea that I have a platform because of my privileged identity as a cis white woman and that I abuse it by sharing my own ideas from it very odd indeed.

I certainly am very privileged to have a computer and wifi and the time to tweet and write things but that privilege is necessarily shared by everyone who takes issue with me online.

I'm wondering how they think this works. Do they think Malhar messaged me and said 'Hey, I noticed you're white and cisgendered. Have you ever written anything? I've got a platform you can put it on.' And then people checked my race & gender identity before reading it?

I think we should all check our privilege. I often marvel at how fortunate I am to have been born in late 20th century England and always have had a home, enough food, an education, access to healthcare. Few people throughout history have been as fortunate as me.

I am well aware that I am literate & have a computer and wifi because of the time, place & class in which I find myself. I am not convinced that the modest number of people who follow me & read my stuff do so because I'm white & cisgendered. Or that more would if I were male.

When you take that kind of thing to extreme, a person can only speak for and about themselves. How boring to have to listen to all these isolated individuals going on and about their little persons (or big persons, as the case may be).

But if you were not those things you would be labelled a traitor to the cause and they could ignore your arguments for that reason. They just want an excuse not to have to engage with reasonable debate.

Isn't that just tribalism? The assumption seems to be that people agree with you based on the fact that they share being cis, white or a woman, not because of the content of what you are saying.

Ah, but it's unconscious... (what I was told by my thesis supervisor when she said I was naturally racist [because all white people are]). I wondered what the diff was between her saying this and a boyfriend I had at the time who kept correcting my essays for me, unasked.

Yes, I admit my human privilege. No dog or cat has been accepted to any medical college in US as far as I know. Clearly the viewpoints of the species-challenged have yet to be respected.

Perhaps it's simply an attempt to silence you under the guise of some incoherent political agenda?
