Oh for god's sake. Respecting trans people and compelling people to accept trans identity are two different things. I do accept it. I wish everyone did. I don't support attempts to force people to pretend to believe things they don't believe. People are allowed to be wrong. https://twitter.com/NSMike1/status/949849675439501312 …

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant psychological harm to the individual.
-
Much hard when your atheism is not accepted by your community. Asked closeted Christians, Muslims Jews etc
-
You're talking to a gay man who grew up a closeted Catholic who didn't come out until I was 29. I left my faith behind years ago, and dealt with severe fallout from my family when I came out. I still know I'm not, and wasn't, as psychologically vulnerable as trans people are.
-
We can insist that trans people are not harassed but not that everyone accept trans identity. Or homosexuality. Or gender equality. They can believe and say what they want. They just can't discriminate or harass.
-
So you don't think misgendering a trans person is equivalent to discrimination & harassment?
-
No. Or a cis person. People don't have to believe other people's views on gender. Trans people don't have to believe radfems and religious conservatives and they don't have to believe in trans identity.
-
I'm not talking about belief, I'm talking about the act of using someone's preferred pronouns and name & avoiding misgendering them.
-
Forcing them to *pretend* to believe they consider someone a woman when they don't.
